Mike Meinke is a Guernsey-based guitarist, songwriter and producer whose music has always been difficult to squeeze neatly into a genre.
Best known locally as the frontman of Buffalo Huddleston – winners of Best Unsigned Band in Britain in 2015 – Mike has spent years making music that wanders freely through acoustic folk, blues, hip-hop, reggae, psychedelia and rock. At the centre of it is a distinctive percussive guitar style, combining fingerpicking, altered tunings, tapping and rhythm with songs that range from introspective and philosophical to playful and occasionally slightly ridiculous. After several years away from releasing music, Mike has recently returned to writing and recording, drawing on a lifetime of influences while keeping one thing at the heart of it: music that feels human. Real instruments, real performances and songs allowed to wander wherever they want to go.
Alongside his songwriting, Mike is the creator of Change My Frequency, an immersive sound project exploring the ways music, vibration and sensory experience can alter how we feel and perceive – experiments that have inevitably begun finding their way back into his music. For this intimate solo performance, he’ll strip things back to where much of it began: one voice, one guitar, and a collection of songs old and new.
