Energy Exchange Records (EXREC) is an independent label operating between London and Berlin, built around a community of musicians working across jazz and club music. Founded by Lewis Moody and Ziggy Zeitgeist, the label has spent the last several years developing a roster and sound that resists easy categorisation, drawing equally from improvised music and dancefloor culture.
Moody and Zeitgeist have collaborated extensively as Zeitgeist Freedom Energy Exchange, a project that became a reference point for the Australian jazz underground with its synthesis of spiritual jazz, afrobeat and electronics, developing a fresh club-focused approach to improvised music. More recently, the pair have been active as EX Generation, a cross-cultural collaborative project that has taken the production duo to Napoli and then Mumbai, cutting albums with the cities’ finest musicians, resulting in a sound that crosses disco, library music, jazz, funk and soul.
Recent releases include D’Monk x Frank Dasent (EXREC010), a split 12″ moving from raw London club cuts to gospel-infused house, and “Bound to Be” (EXREC009), from Melbourne’s Kuzco, a four-track street-soul EP with remixes from Detroit’s Ladymonix and Black Moonchild.
At Global Collection Festival 2026, EXREC takes over the main stage across an evening that moves through several different registers. Sets from long-time collaborators and stalwarts of the UK jazz scene, Allysha Joy and Oscar Jerome, are followed by a special performance from the Energy Exchange Ensemble, bringing together Moody, Zeitgeist, Allysha Joy, Oscar Jerome, Luke Wynter and Oli Savill for a collaborative set that draws on the label’s back catalogue, including work from the Vol. 1 LP that featured Joy and Jerome in 2023. The evening closes with a late-night set from Moody under his goodmood alias, further exploring the deep house and broken beat connection.
